The illustrations will add greatly to the book's utility for the non-specialist who is called on to perform unfamiliar procedures. The chapters are interspersed with many clinical vignettes which illustrate potential sources of error. Although this volume is intended primarily for the non-specialist, its emphasis on basic principles of anesthesia will also make Primary Anaesthesia useful for anesthesiologists and anesthetists in training. The authors of the individual chapters, who currently hold appointments in Kenya, Tanzania, and the United Kingdom, are to be commended on having produced such an excellent work, which conveys a great deal of useful information in an accessible manner-and all in under 200 pages at a modest cost.
